The Kia Sorento involved in the accident continued in motion and was hit head-on by a Pontiac Grand Prix, that then struck a Cadillac SRX. According to authorities, the driver of the Kia was critically injured in the accident, while two others were moderately injured in the Pontiac; the status of the Cadillac’s occupant is unknown at this time.
In 2016, 23,714 drivers and passengers were killed in motor vehicle accidents. According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, more than half of these deaths could have been prevented with a seat belt.
It’s essential to understand the importance of buckling up and driving safely. In 2017, approximately 14,955 lives were saved in 2017 by seat belts, and the most common causes of these otherwise fatal accidents were distracted driving, speeding, and driving under the influence. Accidents happen every day, so it’s important to take the adequate steps needed to stay safe while on the road, such as wearing a seat belt, paying attention to the road, and not texting and driving.
