Fatal Springfield, Missouri Crash Claims Life

A tragic Springfield, Missouri crash involving three vehicles, claimed the life of an 84 year-old Springfield resident.  The crash, featuring two cars and one SUV, closed Campbell Avenue, near U.S. 160 for around an hour.  The driver of one of the cars, Lola Long, 84, died at the scene of the crash.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Long pulled out in front of another vehicle at the intersection of Farm Rd. 157 and Campbell Rd., at around 2:20 p.m. late last week.  The impact of the two-vehicle crash, pushed the cars into a third vehicle.  The driver of the first car was rushed to the emergency room by Springfield fire department with serious injuries.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved in this tragic crash.

Currently, Missouri is undergoing changing programs as the face of the Missouri driver is increasingly aging. In 2011, around 800 individuals were seriously injured in car crashes that involved driver’s that were 65 years or older. Similarly, since 2009 the number of older drivers involved in fatal or serious car crashes has increased by near 20%.  It’s expected that aging baby boomers and increases in life expectancy are likely to cause the senior population in Missouri to rise from around 10 percent to more than 20 percent in 2020.

Missouri is starting to address driver safety and mobility through an older driver intervention program.  These programs will be implemented throughout the state in Kansas City, St. Louis, Springfield, Columbia, and Cape Girardeau.  For more information about what you can do following a car crash that was caused by the negligence of another driver, call a Springfield injury attorney today at 314.409.7060.
