Four People Injured in Car Accident on I-270 Near Bellefontaine Road in St. Louis
St. Louis, MO – Early Friday morning, four vehicles were involved in a multi-vehicle crash near Bellefontaine Road in St. Louis.
It is unclear what caused the accident, but it is known that the driver of the SUV involved in the crash was trapped in their vehicle and had to be extricated. Four people involved in the crash were rushed to the hospital to be treated for injuries caused in the crash, but the severity of their injuries is unknown.
The Missouri Department of Transportation shut down a portion of eastbound I-270 and diverted traffic to the Bellefontaine exit ramp to investigate the crash further and clean up the scene, but it has since re-opened.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there are nearly 2 million multi-vehicle accidents every year. The most common causes of multi-vehicle accidents are rear-end collisions, distracted driving, and speeding.
