Illinois State Trooper Hit By Semi-Truck on I-55 in Collinsville

Collinsville, Ill. – An Illinois State Trooper was hit by a semi-truck Wednesday night on I-55 in Collinsville. The trooper was on foot outside of his vehicle at the time of the accident assisting with a crash that involved a vehicle that had struck a light pole.

According to authorities, the trooper’s vehicle was marked, and safety signals were activated when the semi-truck hit the trooper and his squad car. The trooper suffered critical injuries in the crash and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but is now in stable condition.

The Black Lane exit on I-55 near Collinsville was shut down for a few hours while the scene of the accident was cleaned up, but has since re-opened.Further information from the accident, which is currently under investigation, has yet to be released.

According to the Illinois State Police, 13 Illinois State Police Troopers have been struck, one fatally, while working the scene of an accident since January 1, 2019.
