St. Louis Tent Collapses Dowtown

Saturday afternoon storms have destroyed a tent in downtown St. Louis, near Busch Stadium. The tent collapse is responsible for one death and 17 significant injuries. High winds are being blamed for the collapse of the tent. The tent served as an extension to a downtown sports bar, Kilroy’s, where St. Louis Cardinals fans were celebrating an afternoon victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Witnesses have reported winds speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour. Individuals trapped in the tent were injured when metal poles and electrical wires broke lose during the storm. St. Louis first responders have reported 17 people were taken to nearby hospitals, 100 people were treated on the scene and 1 individual was killed. Medical officials have reported a man died when suffered a heart attack during the chaos of the storm. 5 individuals remain in extremely critical condition this evening.

It is not yet know whether the tent was properly installed, permitted and inspected. The St. Louis Post Dispatch has reported the City building inspector is looking into the incident. Investigations are underway to determine whether human error contributed to the tragedy.
