Three People Injured After a Car Crashes Into Eureka Restaurant
Eureka, MO. – Wednesday evening a man crashed his car through the front of a local restaurant in Eureka and fled the scene.
The accident happened after the driver had left a restaurant, Poor Richard’s Restaurant and Sports Club, where patrons had witnessed the suspect drinking. The man then proceeded to back into the establishment, injuring three patrons, and fleeing the scene.
Witnesses say that one victim was pinned between the car and the bar during the accident and wasn’t freed until the vehicle drove away. The victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor to moderate injuries. At this time, one victim is currently still in the hospital, but the others have since been released.
After the driver fled the scene, a customer inside of the restaurant reported the accident to the police, and several witnesses followed the vehicle to gather information about the suspect. The police apprehended the suspect shortly after, and he is now held in the St. Louis County Jail on $25,000 bond.
Although it is best to stay at the scene of an accident after it happens, roughly 11.7% of all crashes involve hit-and-runs. The main cause of hit-and-run accidents in the U.S. is driving under the influence. In 2016 alone, more than one million drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
