Vehicle Strikes Fire Truck, Runs into South St. Louis Building Following Police Chase

St. Louis, MO. Early this morning, a vehicle ran into a fire truck and crashed into a building in South St. Louis following a police chase.

The accident, which occurred at the corner of Marceau Street and S. Broadway in South St. Louis, happened around 10:30 a.m.

It’s unknown at this time why the police were chasing the vehicle, but the St. Louis Fire Department has reported that at least one person was injured in the accident.

At this point in time, the accident is still under investigation, and further details have yet to be released.

According to a 2007 study, 233 suspects/passengers, 87 bystanders, and 3 responding officers are killed every year in police chase car accidents. Fatalities aside, according to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 17,600 people were hurt in chases from 2004 through 2013.

Police chases typically feature multiple types of negligence. First, whatever the suspect was being pursued for, and secondly, other factors that could be involved such as speeding and drunk driving.
