Violent and Deadly Crash in Jefferson County, Illinois
A Jefferson County, Illinois crash ended in tragedy on Friday. The Jefferson County Coroner reports that the violent crash occurred at around 5 p.m. Friday on I-64 near Mt. Vernon. An Indiana man, Charles Townsend, was pronounced dead at the scene after he drove off of an interstate and fell 50 feet onto a major roadway.
Charles Townsend, 82, of Evansville, Indiana was westbound on I-64 attempting to merge onto I-57. However, things when terribly wrong in his attempt as he drove through a guardrail, which a semi-trailer truck had recently taken out that had not yet been replaced. His car then fell about 50 vertical feet before colliding with the ground, bouncing and landing in the lanes of the interstate 57 bridge. Before coming to a stop, the vehicle slide down a concrete slope. Townsend was pronounced dead at the scene of the horrific accident. Police are looking into the exact cause of this Illinois car crash. Prayers go out to the loved ones of Charles Townsend as they mourn this unfortunate wrongful death.
